Keith Watson says Ross County remain full of confidence going into this afternoon's match against the in-form side in the Scottish Championship.

The Staggies were knocked out of the Scottish Cup by local rivals Inverness Caledonian Thistle on Tuesday evening on penalties, but now turn their focus back to the league campaign at Partick Thistle.

Partick have experienced a remarkable turnaround since the beginning of 2019, drawing their first two games of the calendar year and winning their last five.

That has made the relegation battlers the form team in the league, but Watson is still confident County will be taking all three points from Firhill.

"I think we played Alloa recently and they were the form team, and we went and beat them," he recalled.

"On our day if we play well, I think I'd fancy us against anybody.

"Obviously they're fighting for their lives at the other end of the table, and we're fighting at the top.

"It's a difficult game, the previous game we played out there it was 2-0, but it was a tight game, they actually played very well.

"We know it's going to be difficult, they'll be full of confidence because they're on a good run as well.

"It has the makings of a good game, but we're confident that we can recover after Tuesday and be raring to go for Saturday."

Watson will be encouraged by County's reaction when they have previously lost matches this season.

Whenever the Staggies have encountered a couple of disappointing results, they have always managed to bounce back and go on a winning run.

"Obviously the boys are disappointed," Watson explained.

"We wanted to go through to the next round, but that didn't happen.

"When it goes to penalties it's a hard one to take – someone has to lose, and it was us – but I thought we played well enough in the game and now we just need to concentrate on the league.

"We've been playing well since the last little two-game blip.

"We went to Motherwell and we got a good result, we've picked up a couple of good victories since then.

"When we played Dunfermline we were 1-0 down at half time, and we showed a good reaction to come out in the second half and go and win the game.

"The boys have been great, when something like a defeat has happened we've responded well.

"It's going to be a difficult run in, there will be twists and turns. Partick are on a good run, and we need to make sure we go there and come away with three points.

"We've got a good squad of players, and I'm sure that we'll definitely be ready for this fight."
