Angus Davren missed a high jump medal only on countback at Sunday’s Scottish senior indoor championships at Glasgow’s Emirates Arena.

The former schools internationalist cleared 1.94m, the same height as the eventual bronze medallist, but had to settle for fourth since his final clearance was at his second attempt.

In these open championships, Davren also reached the semi finals of a 60m loaded with non-Scottish talent which took four of the top five places. Davren’s 7.14 seconds was the 11th fastest in the contest, but sixth among the Scottish athletes.

Taking place alongside the senior championships were the under-17 age group events where Alister MacKay finished third in the pole vault with a clearance of 3.24m. He was also fourth in the shot with 11.06m.

Grace MacDonald, who is still in the under-15 age group, missed qualifying for the under-17 800m final by just 0.81s with a time of 2:25.15.

Highland Hill Runners have made a major signing coup with the recruitment of hill running internationalist Caroline Marwick from Inverness Harriers.

Marwick represented Scotland in last year’s Home Countries hill international but will be running in the blue and tartan of the Hill Runners when clearance comes through.

She will maintain second claim status for the Harriers until the end of their membership year in September, and will also fulfil her commitment to organise their Craig Dunain Hill Race in March.

Her departure comes during a period of steady decline in the Harriers’ adult membership, evidenced at Sunday’s club handicap when just five runners contested the Peter Thompson Memorial Quaich.

Joanna Cairns was first across the line to win the award in memory of one of the Harriers’ past presidents by over two minutes.

Finlay MacLennan had the fastest men’s time of 15:52 and Ann Smart was the fastest woman with 22:18
