Ross County Women have trophy target for 2025 after ‘whirlwind’ first 12 months in senior football
Ross County Women will be targeting senior silverware to add to their collection after what was an historic 2024.
After years of competing through the youth age groups, a new senior team was launched to compete in first the Highlands and Islands League, and then the Scottish Women’s Football pyramid.
Now, having started the SWFL North campaign well with three wins out of three – plus progress into the latter stages of the Regional League Cup – there is only one thing on captain Laura Cameron’s mind: trophies.
“It’s probably been better than I could have hoped for to be honest,” she said.
“Going into next year we’re on a really good footing, and we signed off 2024 with a really good result, and knowing we’re in the quarter finals of the League Cup.
“There is still a lot to play for, and next year will only be better hopefully.
“We still have more players coming through, and hopefully we’ll get more opportunities to play at the stadium.
“This year has been great, but I’d love to win some silverware for Ross County. That’s my aim for 2025, so hopefully we can kick on from here and next year can be even better.
“The league has got to be our priority. The cup would be a lovely bonus, but we want to progress and get girls playing at a higher level.
“The league is our priority, so if we can win that it will be a great year. If we can win the cup on top of that, fantastic.”
There have been no shortage of highlights to come from 2024, with the last 12 months going above and beyond what many players could have expected from a brand new side.
For Cameron personally, it was hard to even pick out one thing that stood above the rest.
“It’s been a bit of a whirlwind to be honest,” she reflected.
“From starting in the Highlands and Islands League, we didn’t really know how we would do in that league.
“We had a few bad results, but we ended up winning that league and moved on to the SWFL North.
“We played at the stadium, and we’ve got the partnership with Pat Munro, so it feels like we’ve been really supported by the community as well as the club.
“I think this year has been a really big success for women’s football.
“It’s great to see a second team in the Highlands enter the pyramid, because it gives players options. It’s great for Ross County, but it’s great for the Highlands as well.”
