Fortrose teenager Cairns selected by Scotland for London Mini Marathon

Fortrose teenager Lucas Cairns has been called up to the Scotland squad to compete at the London Mini Marathon.
The 15-year-old was named as one of 24 athletes who was named in the national squad who will compete in the event in October.
The mini marathon was due to take place on Sunday, April 26 but was postponed for six months due to the coronavirus pandemic.
The mini marathon, along with the London Marathon, will now take place on Sunday, October 4.
Cairns will compete in the under-17 race and is the only athlete from the Highlands to be selected for Scotland.
Last year, Cairns finished 22nd in the under-15 boys’ at the three-mile event.
He has gone on to become a major force in Scottish athletics winning a number of impressive titles.
In February, he became the under-17 Scottish Cross Country champion when he took the national crown by 17 seconds at Falkirk.
He also won the Inverness 5k last month for the third consecutive year when he won in a time 15 minutes and 58 seconds beating his nearest competitor by 49 seconds.
