Brora Rangers manager Steven Mackay and assistant manager Craig Campbell have signed a short-term deal to play for Invergordon.
The former Ross County duo are on loan with the North Caledonian League Division One club until the start of the Highland League season on November 28.
The pair played in the 4-0 win over Golspie Sutherland last weekend to help Invergordon move three points clear at the top of the table.
Mackay, who is also a player as well as manager at Brora Rangers, says he and Campbell were keen to improve their match fitness ahead of the new season where the Cattachs will aim to defend their SHFL title.
But the Invergordon native also wants to make a significant contribution to helping his home town club win North Caledonian League Division One this season.
“It is a unique set of circumstances as we have no
Highland League football for five weeks,” he said.
“I have not played since January and I’ve not retired yet, or have any desire to do so.
“So this was a good opportunity to get some minutes in while helping out my local team.
“The fact that the Highland League has been delayed has allowed this to happen.
“But this has been a good chance for us to get game time.
“We will put ourselves forward for Invergordon’s next four fixtures while training Brora on a Tuesday and Thursday, as well as a Saturday morning.”
Mackay has had a long affiliation with Invergordon having played with them as a youngster when he was coached by people still involved at the club.
Invergordon have helped Brora Rangers by allowing them to train at their facilities and Mackay is keen to continue the link between the two clubs.
“Invergordon have supported our club massively over the years,” said Mackay.
“So anything Craig and I can do to repay the favour we would look to do so.
“Playing is also an opportunity to do some undercover scouting work too.
“Once the Highland League season starts, I will probably be a squad player at best.
“But it is good to know I’ve got minutes under my belt and should there be injuries I know I can do a job for Brora on the field.”
Invergordon will look to maintain their 100 per cent record when they welcome Halkirk United to Recreation Park tomorrow with kick-off at 2pm.
