Black Rock Rovers win Division One title
BLACK Rock Rovers have returned to the top flight of Inverness and District Amateur Football after being crowned champions of Division One.
The Evanton outfit sealed the crown with a 7-0 thrashing of G16 United on Tuesday night to ensure they will be playing in the Premiership next season.
It has been an impressive campaign from Black Rock, who after being relegated from the Premiership last season, have dominated Division One, winning all but one of their matches.
Manager Evan Murray says the objective at the start of the season was to get promotion back to the Premiership.
He is delighted with the manner they have managed to do so.
“We were disappointed last season with the way things turned out, so it is good that we are able to bounce straight back up,” he said.
“We have been able to bring a couple of extra bodies into the squad this season and that has made the difference.
“Going by our results this season, we were probably too good for the division, without sounding cocky.
“But it was nice to get the title over the line on Tuesday.”
Striker Ryan McFee has been one of the star players for Black Rock Rovers this season, scoring over 40 goals alone.
Murray says while his prolific frontman has been fantastic, all of his squad have stepped up this season.
“We have had a few different scorers over the course of the season. But over the last four or five weeks, Ryan has been scoring a hat-trick a game.
“However, we have found goals from all over the park.”
Black Rock Rovers also had a great run in the Highland Amateur Cup, reaching the quarter final stage before going out to High Ormlie Hotspur.
They also lifted the Division One Cup when they defeated Tomatin United in the final back in June.
They are still on course to win a treble, as they are set to face Ardersier in the semi final of the All In Cup on Monday.
Murray says while it will be a tough task taking on one of the top teams in the Premiership, is not ruling out a treble winning season.
“We are saving our celebrations on winning the title and putting our complete focus on the All In Cup semi final,” said Murray.
“Ardersier have had a good season themselves, but the game is at home and we will go into the game confident.
“If we can beat them, we would expect Inverness Athletic in the final which would be tough as well.
“But I don’t see with the boys that we have why we can’t win a treble this season.”
