Black Isle based Michael Macpherson’s excellent start in GT racing continued at the weekend with another second place podium finish at round three of the British GT Endurance Championship (BEC) at the Snetterton Circuit in Norfolk.

Macpherson, partnered again with fellow Scot Josh Hislop, started the race in an attempt to work his way past the fast starting TCR class cars lining up between himself and the faster qualifying GT4 cars.

In intense heat and exhausting conditions inside the car, Macpherson quickly found himself battling with the lead Porsche GT4 before easing his way past several laps later.

An oil pressure problem prompted an earlier than scheduled pit stop though, which in turn put the Ginetta a lap down on the lead Porsche.

Shortly after leaving the pits a safety car allowed Macpherson to catch up, and when the race resumed the intense battle between the Ginetta and the Porsche saw Macpherson pull away from the Porsche – unlapping himself in the process.

Once the Porsche had pulled in for the first of its compulsory pit stops, Macpherson found himself back into the lead and building enough of a gap over the next few laps to hand the car over to Hislop at half distance, in first place.

Unfortunately, a gearbox issue cost the pair time, and the dropped down to third before working their way back up to second place.

Macpherson and Hislop now not only lead the GT4 class but are also just one point off the lead of the British GT Endurance Championship. However, Macpherson pointed out that his participation in the three remaining rounds is in doubt as he tries to get funding to complete the season.

Macpherson saying, “I drove the race of my life, driving the car flat out for 90 minutes at qualifying pace to get through the field and eventually pass the Valluga Team Porsche.

"We didn’t have any ventilation coming into the car and the heat in the cockpit was extreme, but at the same time it was the most I have enjoyed driving the car”
