INVERGORDON manager Gary Campbell knows a win against Golspie Sutherland on Saturday would edge his side that bit closer to lifting their first North Caledonian League title in three years.

Darren Goller scored twice for Invergordon against Thurso.

Five teams are still very much in contention for this year’s title, including defending champions Golspie. But Invergordon, who have four games left, are the team in pole position at the top of the table.

“It’s a massive, massive game for us,” said the Invergordon boss.

“Golspie would be four points behind us if they won their games in hand so a win on Saturday would put us in a very strong position.

“But we have a lot of difficult games coming up – hopefully we can keep our winning run going”

Invergordon have strung six victories together but Campbell knows his side face one of the trickiest fixtures of the season at King George V Park.

“With the weather we’ve had lately I expect the pitch up there to be heavy, so it will be a bit of a battle,” he added.

Invergordon forward Darran Goller should be available again for Saturday’s clash.

But wide man Kyle MacLean is again a doubt.

Invergordon’s North Caledonian Cup quarter final tie against Halkirk United last Saturday was called off due to a waterlogged pitch.

It has been rescheduled for Saturday, March 14.

Fellow title contenders St Duthus were also idle.

They would have had the chance to move to within six points of Invergordon with a win against Bunillidh Thistle but their league fixture at Couper Park was another victim of a postponement due to a waterlogged pitch.

The Tain Saints welcome Orkney to Grant Park in another top clash on Saturday.

Saints will have to make do without the pair of Robbie Murray and Scott Miller, but goalkeeper Johnny Allan is available again.

Orkney’s scheduled match did go ahead, and they came from 2–0 down in the last 10 minutes to score twice and force a penalty shoot-out, which they won 8–7.

Thurso smashed Bonar Bridge 10–0 at Naver Park to move to within four points of Invergordon, with a game more played.
