AVOCH came from behind to reach the semi final of the Highland Amateur Cup with a 2-1 victory over Sleat and Strath.

But Maryburgh's dreams of lifting the trophy are over after they threw away a first minute goal lead to lose 4-1 to holders Pentland United.

Avoch, who have won the trophy six times, fell behind in the 55th minute when Ben Porter knocked in a Connaire Yoxon cross.

But the visitors lead lasted only eight minutes when Rhys Shewan levelled the game.

Struan McArthur gave Avoch the lead in the 72nd minute with a tap in at the back post and they held on for victory.

Avoch will face Caithness Premier Division outfit Staxigoe United in the semi final on Saturday, August 10 at a neutral venue.

The winners will face the victors of the Caithness derby between bitter rivals Wick Groats and Pentland United in the final.

Quarter final results: Avoch 2, Sleat and Strath 1; Maryburgh 1, Pentland United 4; Staxigoe United 3, Whitedale 2; Wick Groats 6, Castletown 1.
