Ross County club captain Marcus Fraser says Ross County's change of mentality this season could make for a better showing against Premiership opposition.

The Staggies dropped down a division last summer, but play Motherwell this afternoon in the Scottish Cup fourth round.

Earlier this season, County only narrowly lost to Hibernian in the Betfred Cup at Easter Road.

And now Fraser has said he can see similarities between his side and Motherwell this season, but County's different mind-set from the last time the sides met could be key in securing a result.

"Motherwell are a good side and we're looking forward to it," Fraser said.

"They've been a wee bit stop-start, just like us, and they've had a few injuries as well. It will be a good contest.

"Obviously we've played against them the last few years, and we always get a good game down there.

"This year we're maybe playing with less fear, we're scoring more goals and we have been keeping more shut outs and creating more chances.

"That's always a positive thing, the boys here are a positive group and a confident bunch.

"There's no reason why we can't go down there and get a result."

Fraser returns to the Staggies squad this weekend after serving a suspension last time out from being sent off against Morton.

That was one of three red cards that County have received in the last month, after Brian Graham saw red in the most recent Highland derby and Josh Mullin was dismissed against Queen of the South last weekend.

But the 24-year-old defender does not believe that is indicative of a build up in frustration at the club.

"I don't know if it's that, the one last week with Josh was touch and go," Fraser explained.

"It can go either way, I don't think there's any malice in the tackle, it's just more momentum than anything.

"The way the boy has flung himself up in the air, I think the referee is quick to pull out the red card.

"I think if you do watch it back and you know Josh, there's no real intent to hurt the boy.

"I think that one was harsh, and the one with me was a bit silly on my part.

"Of course you don't want to leave your team down to 10 men, that's not a good feeling for a player when you know your team is out fighting and now they've got a man less.

"Obviously we don't want red cards, we don't want to be known for that either. It's hard, but I think we're a determined group."
