ALNESS United have fallen at the first hurdle in the North Caledonian Cup after defeat in Caithness.

Jude Fraser scored on the stroke of half time to put Alness in front.

But Aaron Wilson equalised midway through the second half as the teams could not be separated at full time.

Alness failed to score from the spot once in the shoot-out as Martin Banks, Sam Barclay and James McLean scored to put Thurso into the quarter finals where they will host Loch Ness.

Invergordon were given a bye into the semi final of the North Caledonian Cup after opponents Scourie failed to raise a team.
