Alness United looking to book place in Football Times Cup final as they take on Golspie Sutherland
ALNESS United will look to book their place in the Football Times Cup final when they take on Golspie Sutherland at Dalmore Park tomorrow afternoon.
United have made an impressive start to the campaign with five wins from their seven league matches which sees them lie in fourth place, six points behind league leaders Halkirk United.
They have shown a big improvement in form compared to the previous two campaigns when they finished in the bottom half of the table.
Now they are looking to seal their place in the final, with the winners facing Invergordon or Inverness Athletic whose semi final tomorrow has been postponed to a later date.
Alness manager Robert Mitchell says it has been a good start to the campaign for his team and he wants to keep up their good form as they look to book their place in the cup final tomorrow.
He said: “We have home advantage in the cup semi final which is welcome as we have not been too clever on the road this season.
“It is hard to be negative about this season so far, as the two games we lost at Halkirk and Orkney, our performances were not anywhere near the standard we have shown.
“Every other performance this season we have been pretty good. Especially at home where we have pretty sharp which is pleasing.
“We just need to tighten up when we are away from home.
“But we are looking to Saturday and aiming to get to the cup final. But we know what Golspie will bring against us.
Alness go into the match after thrashing Fort William 6-2 at Dalmore Park last week.
Alness did suffer a blow when Ryan McFee was taken off with a broken ankle and ligament damage and will now be out for several weeks. Scott MacIver is still out with a broken wrist.
However Alness will welcome Luke Mackay and Ryan Ross back into the squad.
