Alness United manager Rob MacCormack says he is assembling a squad which he believes will be good enough to win North Caledonian League Division Two next season.

Alness are returning to the North Caledonian League after taking a year out last season.

They will play in the second division as the competition has been divided for one season due to the coronavirus pandemic.

MacCormack, who is also manager of Evanton amateur club Black Rock Rovers, is pleased with the additions he has made to the team which looked strong in training.

“We have got some new faces in the squad along with guys who played with Alness previously,” he said.

“We are shaping up to having a decent team, it is quite a young side, but we are looking ok so far.

“It is not a massive squad, but we are comfortable in what we have got.

“There are young exciting guys who have surprised me in how good they are along with the guys who have been there and done that.

“There are players from amateur teams as well as those who played in the NCL who have joined so we feel we are on the right track.

“We still don’t know when we can start, but it is good we can start training in normal circumstances.”

MacCormack is disappointed that Alness United will not have the chance to compete with all clubs in the league as one division.

They will play in Division Two with Bonar Bridge, Bunillidh Thistle, Inverness Athletic, Loch Ness, Nairn County Under-20s and Scourie.

But he says they will compete to win in any competition they take part in.

“The league made the decision to divide this season into two divisions and with everything that is going on it was hard to say what was the best thing to do,” he said.

“But they made the decision and we’re in Division Two. We will always play to win, we’re disappointed we can’t compete against all clubs, but we will compete for anything we can.

“Hopefully next season, everything will go back to normal and we can go again.”
