Sheep and cattle prices from Dingwall Mart as 'tremendous number of ewes' sees trade remaining buoyant in Ross-shire's county town

DINGWALL and Highland Marts sold 11 prime cattle and 929 prime sheep at its sale today.

Prime bullocks (5) averaged 252.9p per kg (-4.1p) and sold to 257.0p per kg for a 615kg Charolais cross from The Cloy, Fortrose and £1,637.50 gross for a 655kg Limousin cross from Bridgend Farm, Dingwall both selling to Messrs John M Munro Ltd, Dingwall.

Prime Heifers (6) averaged 251.9p per kg (+2.9p) and sold to 265.0p per kg for a 560kg Limousin cross from Bridgend Farm, Dingwall selling to Messrs Fraser Brothers, Butchers, Dingwall and £1618.50 gross for a 650kg Limousin cross from The Cloy, Fortrose selling to Messrs John M Munro Ltd, Dingwall.

SQQ 25.5kg to 45.5kg (226) averaged 246.4p (+14.9p) per kg.

Feeding Sheep (486) sold to £150 gross.

New season lambs sold to 257.8p per kg for a pen of 45kg Suffolk Crosses from Braepark, Duncanston selling to Messrs John M Munro Ltd, Dingwall and £128 gross for a pen of 55.5kg Texel Crosses from Meikle Ussie, Dingwall.

SQQ 25.5kg to 45.5kg (226) averaged 246.4p (+14.9p) per kg.

Feeding sheep (486) sold to £150 gross for a Beltex Cross Ewe from Barrogill Mains, Mey.

The verdict: “A reduced number of lambs forward were slightly dearer on the week, in particular for export types. A tremendous number of ewes forward for this centre at this time of year saw trade remaining buoyant however the smaller leaner end would be slightly harder to cash than they have been of late. Any power met a firm enquiry and were short of buyers' requirements.”
