Work under way at Invergordon Academy
IN excess of 400 secondary pupils sent home today because of a leaky roof in their school could be back at their desks tomorrow morning.
Highland Council, the education authority which runs Invergordon Academy, said in a statement that the 440-pupil school was closed on health and safety grounds "as the result of damage to an area of ceiling caused by water penetration over the weekend".
The problem affected the school canteen, an area which is used as an access route by pupils.
In a statement, the Council said, "It is hoped that repairs can be carried out today and access routes reinstated so that the 440 pupils can return to school tomorrow (Tuesday).
"The water penetration arose as a result of work currently being carried out at the school to replace the roof over the canteen."
The contractor, County Tyrone-based Bell Contracts, began work in July and the work is due for completion in October. The value of the contract is £149,000.
As reported earlier, angry parents have raised questions as to why the work has not yet been completed.
