A COMMUNITY group has issued an appeal over litter in a popular area of woodland frequented by children.

Maryburgh Community made its Facebook appeal after being contacted by a local resident about the amount of litter scattered in the woods "mainly in the area where the kids have built their bike ramps".

The page told its followers that the litter was later safely gathered and taken home to be disposed off properly.

It said: "Small wonder that some kids are hyper (sorry! - energetic!) going by the number of empty Haribo packets and Lucozade bottles! Isn't it amazing that people can find the strength to carry bottles and snacks into the woods, but lack the strength to take the empty packets and containers home!

"Kids (and the occasional adult). Have fun in the woods . You are so lucky to have that space in which to play but please show some consideration for people who enjoy walking in them and also for the wildlife which tend to investigate litter and often come to grief because of it. Please make the effort to take your litter home with you."

The post prompted others to share their concerns with one pointing to issues around the Conon Bridge war memorial.

Another wrote: "Makes me so mad. I filled a bag of litter from the park last month.Wrappers everywhere, just thoughtless littering.I don’t ever remember having to be taught not to litter, we just knew to put stuff in the bin."
