A picturesque village in the Highlands is lucky enough to boast its very own gallery which showcases the peninsula’s globally renowned views and wildlife.

Applecross Photographic Gallery was opened in 2015, by budding photographer and entrepreneur Jack Marris.

Nestled in the moors of Camusteel, Applecross, the gallery is filled to the brim with photos that Jack has taken over the years, including of the Bealach na Ba, the Cullins, Highland cows and starry night skies.

He now employs five staff who are from the local area, providing another sector within the region.

Jack said: “The people who work here are so great and I am very happy we get to employ so many local people.

“They have been so supportive in setting this gallery up and to be able to provide another sector in Applecross other than hospitality and farming is rewarding.”

The savvy 30-year-old now has a new project that will allow visitors to take even more of Applecross home with them.

Running with the idea from a suggestion of a friend, Jack has started framing his pictures with posts of wood that are no longer in use from around Applecross.

Getting permission from the Applecross Estate, Jack has been able to turn these now useless posts into rustic photo frames.

Supporting the circular economy even further is the fact that these posts were made from trees from Applecross that were cut down in the late 60s and early 70s.

Jack said: “We are so happy to be able to take these posts and turn them into frames.

“When people visit the beautiful scenery here they are always happy to take back a picture to remember the landscape.

“Now they can take another piece of Applecross home with them whilst supporting a sustainable circular economy.”

Applecross Photographic Gallery is open seven days a week from 9am - 5pm.
