A woman was caught driving at more than 90mph on a journey from Inverness.

Eilidh Graham (21) was followed by an unmarked police car while travelling between North Kessock and Tore on March 8 last year.

Graham also got up to speeds of 70mph in a 30mph stretch of roadworks, Inverness Sheriff Court was told.

Fiscal depute Martina Eastwood told Sheriff Ian Cruickshank: “A police officer in an unmarked police car was drawn to a purple Peugeot ahead of him travelling northbound on the A9, exceeding the speed limit of 50mph.

“He followed and the driver was seen to be doing no less than 65mph.

“At the junction at North Kessock the speed limit dropped to 30mph for road works, with the road scraped away and ramps.

“The car failed to slow and was not below 75mph at this point.

“He followed on the route to Tore, which is 70mph, and the driver was doing 92mph.

“At the exit at Tore the driver of the Peugeot overtook while it was unsafe in front of an HGV travelling in the opposite direction.

“A marked police car then pulled the accused over and charged her with dangerous driving.”

On being charged it was reported Graham said: “I’ll improve my driving.”

Graham, of Stuarthill Drive, Maryburgh, pleaded guilty to driving dangerously.

Sheriff Cruickshank fined her a total of £740 and disqualified her from driving for 12 months until she sits an extended test of competency to drive.

Defence solicitor Rory Gowans said: “She regrets the day in question and she was going through personal difficulties and was not fully focused.”
