A 64-year-old woman has been charged after an alleged incident of sheep worrying in Drumnadrochit.

It happened on Tuesday, February 16, and a Police Scotland spokeswoman confirmed that no animals were killed as a result of the incident.

The spokeswoman added: "The woman has been charged and is subject of a report to the procurator fiscal."

Dog owners are reminded to follow the Scottish Outdoor Access Code (SOAC) and keep their animals under control.

Under the Dogs (Protection of Livestock) Act 1953, if a dog worries sheep on agricultural land, the person in charge of the dog is guilty of an offence.

The act considers sheep worrying to include attacking sheep, chasing them in a way that may cause injury suffering, abortion or loss of produce or being at large (not on a lead or otherwise under close control) in a field or enclosure in which there are sheep.

The issue has been raised by a number of outdoor and farming groups in recent weeks.
