Wester Ross village celebrates 20th year of duathlon
A Wester Ross village turned into a hub of activity during September as competitors took on a gruelling challenge.
In its 20th year, Applecross Duathlon saw 47 individuals covering nine miles on foot and 15 miles on bike with 3,300 feet of ascent and descent on September 13.
This year the challenge was won by Hamish Martindale who covered the route in 1hour 30 minutes.
In order to make the most of the weekend there was also plenty of entertainment at Applecross Community Hall for locals and visitors alike.
September 12 saw a traditional ceilidh dance take place as part of Blas Festival and on Saturday 13, BlackRock Ceilidh Band took to the stage.
The organisers said: “Another brilliant Duathlon weekend!
“A wonderful atmosphere as always with lots of new and familiar faces, and even some sunshine. A huge well done and thank you to all who participated, whether it was your first or 20th time!
“We are so grateful to all the supporters who make the Duathlon possible - particularly to Agnes who took the lead on organising this year, supported by Gerry and a team of wonderful volunteers.
“A big thank you also to the local businesses and organisations who supported the event including Hartfield House Hostel for providing a perfect venue and hosting, Applecross Walled Garden for providing a delicious spread of food and hand-making the medals, Applecross Brewing Co. for their sponsorship (the finish line beers are always a treat!), Clement Design for the fab hand printed Duathlon T-shirts, Linzi’s Lolly’s for the much-loved addition of ice cream and Applecross Community Hall for hosting another fantastic ceilidh and so many others who helped make the day a success!”
