A WESTER Ross primary school may be facing permanent closure two years after being mothballed.

The Highland Council have published a consultative paper proposing that Kinlochewe Primary, which was mothballed in the summer of 2022, to have provisions of education discontinued. If approved, this would mean the reallocation of the school’s catchment area to Gairloch Primary.

Consultation for the proposal began on January 13, and will end on February 28. During this time, the council invited members of the public to comment on the proposal to permanently close the school.

There will also be a public meeting on January 28 at 6.30pm at the Kinlochewe Village Hall, where members of the public can discuss the proposal with Highland Council representatives. All of the comments will be presented to the Highland Council’s Education Committee, “for consideration”.
