Kinlochewe group securees go-ahead for toilet block revamp with planning go-ahead and help from Rural Tourism Infrastructure Fund
A COMMUNITY gearing up for life beyond Covid-19 and preparing for the eventual return of visitors is welcoming the go-ahead for its toilet block revamp.
Kinlochewe is set to significantly improve facilities after the Community Out West group got the go-ahead from Highland Council.
The replacement of existing facilities with a new building including shower facilities and a motorhome waste disposal unit, will be helped by the Rural Tourism Infrastructure Fund (RTIF).
The parking area will be reconfigured and a chemical waste disposal point for the use of campervans.
Acting head of development management, Graham Sharp, said: “In essence, this application seeks to reconfigure an existing car park and toilet block to provide improved facilities. It is considered that the conditions which are proposed would provide sufficient mitigation to overcome the concerns which have been raised in the submitted objections.”
Community Out West later posted: “We are delighted to share the news that our planning application for the redevelopment of the community toilets and tourist facilities at Kinlochewe was granted full planning permission yesterday.
“All of the councillors at the planning meeting spoke favourably about the project, including comments on how clean and well-kept the toilets always are.
“The final amount of our RTIF grant is still to be confirmed, but now that we have planning permission, the major hurdle is behind us.
“We can now start to move forward with our plans and get some of the much-needed facilities, including the motorhome waste disposal unit, fresh water supply and recycling bin, in place before the start of the tourist season.
“The full redevelopment is scheduled to begin in the autumn, to be completed by spring 2022.”
