A COUPLE familiar to many in Wester Ross and beyond marked a milestone at the weekend when they celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary.

Peter and Margaret Harrison from Pool House Hotel in Poolewe met at the Midland Hotel in Manchester in 1958. They have worked in some of the most prestigious hotels in the UK over their time together.

After 62 years in hospitality, they finally retired in August this year.

Margaret, originally from Balallan on the Isle of Lewis, studied hotel management and accountancy at Strathclyde University.

Peter, from Sale in Cheshire, started his training in Paris before returning to Manchester, where they met.

Ross-shire Lord Lieutenant Joanie Whitelaw was delighted to present the couple with an anniversary card from the Queen.

Mrs Whiteford said: "I had the pleasure to present Peter and Margaret Harrison with a 60th wedding anniversary card from Her Majesty The Queen. They looked the picture of health and Margaret was wearing the most beautiful orange suit.

"In late 1990 they decided to move to Poolewe so Margaret could be closer to her family on the Isle of Lewis. They have loved their time running Pool House in this beautiful location and among such a wonderful local community."
