A WESTER Ross village that took inspiration from its fishing heritage is preparing for a spectacular Christmas lights switch-on like no other.

Ullapool's Creel Tree feature has become a major local attraction in recent years in the run-up to the festive season.

This year's switch-on has been locally arranged for 5.30pm on Thursday with a creel sponsor, Joseph Hilton, picked from the hat at a draw earlier this week, getting the honour.

The voluntary group Ullapool Fire & Light, established in 2006 to deliver local events for the community, posted: "Afterwards, why not enjoy some late night shopping as the village comes together to welcome in the festive season. We hope to see you there!"

The lights are expected to remain on until the first week of January.
