A BUCOLIC beauty spot which has bounced back from disaster after being wrecked by storm waves in 2020 has become a “face” for a new Keep Scotland Beautiful campaign.

The Sitooterie community garden in Gairloch has been chosen to help front the launch of the scheme’s Beautiful Scotland and It’s Your Neighbourhood programmes.

Local shopkeeper David Carruthers, who was one of the people involved in the project that transformed a gorse-infested verge area into the 206-metre long wildlife observation garden, said being chosen to write a blog to help spread word of the campaigns was an honour.

And he hopes other community garden initiatives are inspired, adding: “What a difference that certificate made! It helped us focus on our achievements and made us realise we could do even better! It instilled further community pride in the garden and gave a real sense of achievement in that our efforts had been recognised. Keep Scotland Beautiful’s It’s Your Neighbourhood scheme has inspired us and actively encouraged us to drive forward our community plans.”
