A KEY Wester Ross road is to be closed for an entire weekend early next month, to allow vital level crossing repairs to be carried out.

Highland Council has warned that the A890 Achnasheen to Strathcarron road will be shut at Balnacra from 7pm on Friday, May 7 until 8am on Monday, May 10.

The closure is to enable Network Rail Scotland engineers to carry out "necessary repairs" to the Kyle Line's level crossing at Balnacra.

A 150 metre section of the road will be closed to "all vehicular traffic and pedestrians" while the work is carried out.

The closure will result in a lengthy detour for motorists via Kinlochewe, Torridon and Shieldaig.
