A young cancer survivor will showcase her favourite recipes alongside top chefs and celebrities in support of a national charity fundraiser.

From the age of just two, Phoebe Macaskill (15), from Abriachan, courageously fought an aggressive childhood cancer which left her with a 20 per cent chance of survival.

Now a healthy, happy teenager, this is the latest in a string of fundraising efforts from the schoolgirl.

Comedian Alan Carr and Michelin-starred Marcus Wareing and Monica Galetti will be among those joining the local lass in supporting the Neuroblastoma UK charity as part of Childhood Cancer Awareness Month.

Miss Macaskill is sharing her favourite berry muffin recipe as Neuroblastoma UK encourages British people to “get together over good food” and host a fundraiser with family and friends to help progress vital research into neuroblastoma.

Mum Rona Macaskill said: “We are so proud of Phoebe for wanting to help a charity that is so close to our hearts. It was a truly horrible time when Phoebe was ill and one I would never want to repeat. Although awful, there were many amazing things that have come out of our experience.

“We’d never heard of neuroblastoma before Phoebe was diagnosed, so raising money and awareness in this way can help other families like ours in the future. Every penny people raise by hosting a get-together this September can help the charity get closer to finding a cure and save more young lives.”

Miss Macaskill joins the UK’s top chefs who are sharing their exclusive recipes for classic dishes such as superstar seafood chef Nathan Outlaw’s fish finger roll.

Other offerings include a tarte tatin from French chef Jean-Christophe Novelli, a chicken korma from pioneering chef Atul Kochhar, Mr Wareing’s custard tart, Jude Kereama’s seafood curry and Gordon Stott’s monkfish.

Neuroblastoma UK fundraising manager Katherine Mobey said: “Whether it’s a coffee morning at work or a dinner party at home, our Get Together is a really fun, easy way to raise awareness of neuroblastoma and raise some money.

“Research has been seriously impacted by the pandemic and this can help scientists improve treatment and save young lives.”

Mr Carr, a patron of Neuroblastoma UK, said: “I’m really excited to share my Nan’s favourite apple crumble recipe – just like her, it’s faff free, no-nonsense but a little bit naughty with a kick.”
