WATCH: Mile-long blaze at Scotscalder in Far North put out by firefighters

Four fire appliances attended a blaze in the Halkirk area on Wednesday after it started to spread on open farmland.

A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: “We were alerted at 3.54pm on Wednesday, March 24 to reports of a fire in the open at Scotscalder, Halkirk, Caithness. Operations control mobilised four appliances to the scene.

“Firefighters extinguished a fire which was approximately one mile long and crews left after ensuring the area was made safe. There were no reported casualties.”

Smoke from the fire could be seen for quite a distance.
