WATCH: Gold for Golspie as 50-plus team retains title at Skiffie Worlds 2022 in Netherlands

RACE day one at the skiff World Championships in Netherlands has seen a Highland team blaze a golden trail of glory.

The event is being held in Kortgene with the Highlands' growing interest in the sport reflected with a strong entry from across the region.

Golspie Rowing Club has already made its mark by retaining the gold medal in the 50+ mixed crew category.

The team pulled away in the last 300m to win the race.

The club posted: "We are SO proud of our Gold medal! They pulled away in the last 300m to win the race!"

The Skiff World Championships 2022 are running until July 2.

The international event is hosting over 1500 participants with 31 teams from Scotland and 1300-plus participants amongst the 60 teams contesting a variety of categories.
