DRAMATIC footage shows a pall of smoke billowing out across an Easter Ross town as a blaze took hold of a primary school.

Ian Bilsland captured the footage as he was working on the helideck of an oil rig in Invergordon's Queen's Dock earlier today.

Mr Bilsland was working alongisde colleagues Jake Fraser and Michael Gall on the rig overlooking Invergordon when the drama unfolded this morning.

He said: "We heard the fire alarm coming from Park and quickly saw all the children in the playground.

"Within minutes you could see the flames and smoke and the children all started screaming! They were quickly escorted off the premises and then the emergency services were on the scene. The fire seemed to take hold and spread really, really quickly and there were huge clouds of smoke within minutes."

All pupils and staff have been accounted for.

A Highland Council spokesman said: "We are awaiting the outcome of Scottish Fire and Rescue Service’s investigation into the fire, but we understand it might have originated from an old lap-top.

"As a precaution we are asking all staff using these older models not to use them until further notice."
