THE Met Office has issued a weather warning for snow in the Highlands.
The yellow level warning kicks in at 11am on Tuesday and runs through to midnight as things stand.
For the Highland area, it states: "Heavy snow is expected across northern parts of Great Britain bringing likely travel disruption, especially over higher routes."
That translates to:
Possible travel delays on roads stranding some vehicles and passengers
Possible delays or cancellations to rail and air travel
There is a slight chance that some rural communities could become cut off
There is a small chance that power cuts will occur and other services, such as mobile phone.
coverage, may be affected.
Tomorrow's outlook for Dingwall states: "Tomorrow will be a largely cloudy morning. Gale-force winds in the afternoon, with rain and snow. The snow may fall to lower levels as well. Hill snow will likely drift in the strong winds."
The yellow warning is the least severe of three bandings which include amber and, most severe, red.
The definition of the yellow warning is: Severe weather is possible over the next few days and could affect you. Yellow means that you should plan ahead thinking about possible travel delays, or the disruption of your day to day activities. The Met Office is monitoring the developing weather situation and Yellow means keep an eye on the latest forecast and be aware that the weather may change or worsen, leading to disruption of your plans in the next few days.
