Now Ross County rivals Inverness Caledonian Thistle face a wait to find out if they will receive promotion to the Premiership as part of league reconstruction after it is confirmed there will be no play-offs this season.

Controversy has surrounded the passing of the proposals after Dundee admitted they intended to vote against the resolution to end the season for the three divisions below the Premiership.

But after their vote failed to reach the SPFL before last Friday's deadline, Dundee chose to pause their vote and have now changed their minds.

The decision means that Dundee United have been crowned Championship winners and will be promoted with Partick Thistle relegated to League One.

Raith Rovers will be promoted to League One as champions with Stranraer relegated to League Two.

Cove Rangers will be promoted from League Two as champions.

But bottom of the table Brechin City will remain in League Two next season as the play-off with the winners of the Highland League champions Brora Rangers and Lowland League champions Kelty Hearts have been scrapped.

The Premiership season will continue to be postponed, but if it can't be finished, Hearts, who are bottom of the table will be relegated, with Ross County securing their place in the top flight.

However there may be hope for second placed Caley Thistle to be promoted to the Premiership and Highland League champions Brora Rangers to be promoted to League Two.

The SPFL has committed to consult on possible league restructuring in time for next season around an expanded Premiership model.

The SPFL board have hired Hearts chairwoman Ann Budge and Academical chair Les Gray to jointly lead a reconstruction task force, bringing in other football figures to provide input and support.
