ACTION to tackle notorious accident blackspots is set to take a step forward next week – and the public are being urged to make sure their views are heard.

Transport Scotland will be hosting a drop-in consultation event to discuss road safety on the A9 Tain bypass, most notably at the Knockbreck Road and Morangie junctions.

The session, which is being held in conjunction with Transport Scotland’s consultants Jacobs, follows recent efforts to mitigate the junctions’ problematic reputations for near-misses and collisions, including surfacing, signage and the forthcoming switch to reduced 50mph limits.

Transport Scotland is now carrying out appraisals of the various junction improvement options.

And it wants to hear from motorists in Tain and the surrounding area as it seeks to understand the various issues and is looking to discuss potential ways of addressing the problems.

The drop-in session will take place at Tain Library in Stafford Street on Tuesday, February 25 from 11am to 1.30pm and between 3pm and 7pm.

A Transport Scotland spokesman said: “We have commissioned Jacobs to seek views on the operation and road safety of the A9 Tain bypass to inform the junction option appraisal.

“The public event at Tain Library on February 25 is a good opportunity for local residents to share their views on potential opportunities to address issues which have been highlighted to us.”
