DINGWALL and Highland Marts Ltd sold 835 prime sheep at their latest sale today with those making the effort 'richly rewarded'.

Old season lambs (628) averaged 258.9p (+1.3p) and sold to 290.2p per kg for a 41kg Beltex cross from Badentoul, Fordyce and £140 gross for a pen of 50kg Beltex crosses from Allaloth Farm, Buckie.

Feeding sheep (207) sold to £180 gross for a Texel cross ewe from Fearn Farm, Fearn.

The verdict: “A New Year brings copious amounts of fresh faces to the vendors' list at Dingwall Mart. Those that made the trek were richly rewarded with the top gross price per head going to a first time consignor. Hogg trade was comparable on the week with more fleshed sorts on the shopping aisle which lit up the faces of the usual ringside of buyers.

"The ewes met a steady trade throughout, with more power around than there has been of late. More are required on a weekly basis to satisfy the ever growing buyer demand.”
