A WEEKEND clinic run in Dingwall to help the nationwide Covid-19 vaccination and booster shot drive went ahead thanks to extra work put in by healthcare staff and valued volunteers.

The drop-in clinic at Dingwall Health Centre offered people eligible the chance to get first, second or booster jags.

It came amidst a rising number of people being infected by the omicron variant and reports of staff shortages across a number of businesses as a result.

It was the final planned Covid vaccination clinic to be run by .

Dr Moira McKenna said: "This is the last of the planned clinics that we have delivered over the last year.

"We know that our patients have appreciated having a local clinic where they can go for their vaccination and we are very pleased that the uptake has been so good, especially in the older age group with the practice achieving vaccination rates of over 95 per cent in patients over age 75 years of age.

"The clinics have been additional work for the GPs and staff of the Health Centre and we are especially grateful to have been supported by volunteers from the Red Cross and other individuals from the community. For those who do not have the benefit of the protection of three doses of vaccine we continue to urge patients to come along for vaccination.

"Vaccination is vital to protect individuals, to slow spread in the community and to protect the NHS and other key services. Any patients of Dingwall Medical Group needing a 1st, 2nd or booster vaccination should check the NHS Highland website for details of vaccination as there are clinics across Highland waiting for you."
