UPDATE: One person feared dead after Highland crash involving a light aircraft, incident is believed to have happened between Avoch and Munlochy on the Black Isle

One person is feared dead after a light aircraft crashed into a field on the Black Isle.

A major rescue operation was launched after the aircraft, believed to be a gyrocopter, came down between the villages of Avoch and Munlochy.

The alarm was raised at 12.55pm today.

It is not known how many people were on board the two-seater but it is understood that one person was killed.

Police blocked off roads around the scene.

A number of sources said the aircraft involved was a gyrocopter.
