A87 road crash: one person airlifted to hospital in Glasgow after serious collision closes Highland trunk route next to Loch Cluanie in Inverness-shire
A person has been airlifted to hospital in Glasgow after a serious crash on the A87 at Loch Cluanie.
The busy trunk road has been closed for several hours, following reports of a crash at around 11.12am.
Emergency services rushed to the scene, with the accident sparking a large response from the Scottish Ambulance Service.
It confirmed that two air ambulances, an ambulance, and trauma teams were sent to the site.
A spokesperson for the Scottish Ambulance Service said: “We received a call at 11.12am to attend a road traffic collision on the A87, near Loch Cluanie.
“We dispatched two air ambulances, an ambulance, a trauma team, and a Prehospital Immediate Care and Trauma Team (PICT) to the scene.
“We transported one patient to Queen Elizabeth University Hospital, Glasgow.”
It is not known if anyone else was injured, or whether the crash involved a single vehicle or more than one.
At the time of writing (4pm, Friday), the trunk road remained closed to traffic, with police and Traffic Scotland advising motorists to avoid the area.
A Police Scotland spokesperson, speaking at 1.03pm, added: “The A87 near Cluanie is closed in both directions between its junction with the A890 Auchtertyre and the A87 Bunloyne junction following a crash which was reported to police about 11.25am on Friday, June 6.
“Emergency services are in attendance and drivers are advised to avoid the area.”
