UPDATE: Fog disruption continues for air travel in the UK as delays impact several Inverness Airport flights
The effects of dense fog which disrupted air travel across the UK yesterday is continuing to impact Inverness flights today, with delays of up to three hours.
Loganair’s flight to Manchester due to leave the Highland capital at 10.40am did not depart until 1.20pm, whilst morning service to London Gatwick left at 8.35am instead of 6.35am.
Delays of up to an hour affected flights to Luton and Heathrow, whilst the 2.45pm flight to Gatwick is not expected to depart until 5.45pm according to EasyJet’s website.
On the official flight status for the flight, the airline said that this was due to the plane being delayed on the previous flight due to adverse weather conditions, which has meant that Air Traffic Control has had to limit the number of aircraft that can arrive and depart, leading to delays and cancellations today.
It stated earlier today: “We have been informed that low visibility is expected to impact many areas of the UK and Europe today, including most of England, France, Germany, Switzerland, Scandinavia, and Central Europe.
”For safety reasons, Air Traffic Control will increase the time intervals between flights departing or arriving at airports experiencing mist and fog. This may lead to Air Traffic Control slot restrictions, which limit the number of planes that can land or take off from affected airports. At busy airports, this can result in long delays and flight disruptions.
”Our Operations team collaborates closely with our partners at Eurocontrol, air traffic control centre's, and airports across Europe to minimize disruptions and delays. The latest information regarding your flight will be updated on the Flight Tracker.
”While low visibility conditions like mist and fog are beyond our control and considered extraordinary circumstances, we appreciate your patience and understanding should your flight be affected by today’s weather conditions.”
