Emergency services are in attendance following a crash which has shut the A87 in both directions at Loch Cluanie.

Police confirmed that the crash occurred at around 11.25am, and had closed the busy trunk road to through traffic between the A890 Auchtertyre junction and A87 Bunloyne junction.

Officers have urged drivers to avoid the area.

There was no immediate word as to how many vehicles were involved or whether anyone was injured.

The police and the Scottish Ambulance Service have been approached for more information.

Confirming the crash in a post to its social media feeds shortly after 1pm, a Police Scotland spokesperson said: “The A87 near Cluanie is closed in both directions between its junction with the A890 Auchtertyre and the A87 Bunloyne junction following a crash which was reported to police about 11.25am on Friday.

“Emergency services are in attendance and drivers are advised to avoid the area.”

Traffic Scotland had earlier flagged the closure to Highland motorists in a post to its website and social channels shortly before midday.

In its most recent update, posted shortly before 1pm, it advised motorists that the route remained closed at Loch Cluanie and added that emergency crews were in attendance.
