UPDATE: Diversions in place following A9 accident on Black Isle

DIVERSIONS have been put in place following a two-vehicle accident on the A9 on the Black Isle.

The accident happened at 4.25pm this afternoon close to the Munlochy junction.

While full details of the incident have yet to be released by police, it was confirmed that the A9 between Tore roundabout and Longman had been closed with diversions are in place.

Police advised motorists to avoid the area where possible and said emergency services were still on the scene.

Highland Council said local diversions are in place.

Traffic Scotland gave the diversion routes as follows: Northbound – Turn left at Longman Roundabout onto the A82 then follow the road until A82/A862 Junction – Turn right and continue until A862 Junction – Turn Right on the A833 - Turn Right onto the A832 at Muir of Ord – Thereafter follow permanent signing. Distance: 9.9 miles. Southbound Turn Right onto the A832 and continue to Muir of Ord – Turn Left onto the A862 – Turn Left onto the A862 and continue to the A862 Junction – Turn Left onto the A862 – Turn Left onto the A82 – Thereafter follow permanent signing. Distance: 9.9 miles.

Police have not released any further details of casualties or the vehicles involved.

Motorists have reported significant delays.

The junction has been the scene of a number of accidents down the years and prompted calls for safety measures to be implemented.
