THE A9 has reopened in southern Sutherland but "traffic remains slow" following an earlier one vehicle crash near Clashmore.

Traffic Scotland confirmed shortly before 10am that the road had reopened following the crash, which occurred at around 8.20am.

A spokesman said: "Slow traffic remains in the area [but] all lanes are now running."

They added: "Please only travel if it is essential."

The appeal came amid warnings from police and the Met Office of treacherous ice conditions in the Highlands – particularly in Sutherland, Caithness and Ross-shire.

It is not yet known if there were any injuries in this morning's crash. Two fire engines, from Dornoch and Golspie, attended the scene.
