The A9 Inverness-Perth road has re-opened in both directions after a fatal accident in the early hours of this morning.

The Highlands' arterial route was closed between Carrbridge and Inverness for around 16 hours.

Traffic Scotland reported that the road had reopened just after 8pm.

The accident involving two HGVs occurred at around 4.15am and claimed the life of 64-year-old Inverness lorry driver Alan Jones.

The driver of the other HGV, a 56-year-old man, was taken by ambulance to Raigmore Hospital in the city where he was released following treatment.

He has not been named.
