An Ullapool shop has relocated into the former premises of much-loved newsagents before they were forced to close two years ago.

Highland Liquor Co, founded in 2018, is the distillery behind traditionally-made local spirits including The Ullapool Gin and the Seven Crofts Dry Gin and Fisherman’s Strength Gin. As well as this, the company also has a shop in Fort William and a shop in Ullapool, which offer a range of locally-made liquors.

Their Ullapool shop, which was previously located on 26 West Argyle Street, has now relocated to 1 Shore Street which was previously Parlett’s Convenience Store.

Parlett’s Convenience Store cited rising prices due to the cost of living crisis as their reason for closing the shop at the end of November in 2022. However, the store has not remained empty for those two years — instead they previously hosted the likes of Peat and Diesel for a merchandise pop-up shop over the 2023 festive season.

The closure of Parlett’s also caused the future of the local Post Office, which was located within the newsagents, to become uncertain for some time. The Post Office was temporarily relocated to Ullapool Village Hall, and later resorting to a mobile post service from the Dingwall branch for some months. However, the Post Office issue is now soon to be sorted, with the branch set to permanently re-open in the Ullapool Tesco Supermarket later in October.

It is unknown what the former Highland Liquor Co. shop premises on West Argyle Street will now be used for.
