Ullapool chippy scoops major fish and chips award — for the second year running
An Ullapool institution has scooped a major award for their chippies — for the second year in a row.
Chip shop on Ullapool’s Shore Street, Deli-ca-sea, took home two accolades from the 2024 Scottish Fish and Chip Awards — Best Fish Supper (North-West) and Highly Acclaimed as the Best Chip Shop (North-West).
This means that Deli-ca-sea have now started a streak of winning the Best Fish Supper Award, after having won it last year too. Earlier this year, Deli-ca-sea began their new venture as a cafe next door to the chip shop.
David and Mairi Mackenzie, who have been running the chippy for 17 years, said: “There are a few folk we need to thank. First and foremost, the Deli-ca-sea team. John, Gayle, Dave, Lorna, Vanessa, Chloe, Evie, Alison, Fleur, Lewis, Dylan and Fraser.
“Stephen at SRCfoods for the steady stream of quality fresh fish. Willie Henry for ensuring we never run out of tatties; Iain and Ross, two of the best reps out there. The Scottish Fish and Chip Awards for putting on an amazing Awards Gala evening.
“But, most importantly we need to thank the most important member of the Deli-ca-sea team... our customers. You’re all awesome!!
“On a final note, we would like to congratulate Jodie and his team at The Seaforth on their own win at the awards.”
As well as Deli-ca-sea’s win, another Ullapool chip shop, The Chippy at The Seaforth, also took home a few awards on the night. The chippy was crowned as the Best Chip Shop (North-West), and was highly recommended for Best Customer Service.
