Ullapool award-winning artist to feature in new exhibition
AN award-winning Ullapool artist is set to feature in a new exhibition in the Wester Ross village, alongside a fellow local artist.
The latest exhibition from Ullapool art gallery, An Talla Solais, opened on May 10, showcasing the paintings of award-winning artists MK Thomson and Daniel Murray.
Rising star MK Thomson graduated from Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art and Design (DJCAD) in 2023, with a first class honours degree in fine art. As well as this, she also scooped the prestigious Graham Lang award for excellence in drawing and painting.
Since then, MK has gone on to hold a join a joint exhibition in Ullapool with her mother LG Thomson — a fellow DJCAD-graduate artist — and featuring in multiple exhibitions at local art gallery, An Talla Solais.
Daniel Murray grew up in Gairloch, and is now based in Leith. A former student of Ullapool’s Bridgehouse Art Portfolio course, he is inspired by landscapes of the north-west.
An Talla Solais said: “MK Thomson is an artist who paints the human body with a focus on ambiguity, physicality, and monumentality. Daniel Murray is an artist inspired by the landscapes of the north-west. Using acrylic on board, he juxtaposes their dramatic shapes with delicate and more vulnerable human forms.
“This bold and beautiful exhibition is not to be missed.”
The exhibition is on display until June 22. Located on Market Street, An Talla Solais is open from Wednesday to Sunday, from 10am to 1.30pm, then 2 to 5pm.
