Ullapool annual exhibition filled with ‘exciting and inspiring’ artwork set to return
An Ullapool art gallery’s highly-anticipated annual exhibition was “overwhelmed with the number and quality of artworks submitted this year”, resulting needing to use an extra room to display all the pieces in the show.
Community arts centre and gallery, An Talla Solais, are set to open their annual Members Show at their Market Street gallery, on August 9. The exhibition sees artwork submitted from their members based across Scotland, often featuring a diverse range of art styles and mediums.
In 2023 the Members Show saw art in mediums such as: embroidered photographs, alasbaster sculptures, abstract landscape paintings and insightful portraits.
One of the local artists showcased in the exhibition is rising star MK Thomson, who graduated from Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art and Design (DJCAD) in 2023, with a first class honours degree in fine art and the prestigious Graham Lang award for excellence in drawing and painting. Since then, MK has gone on to hold a joint exhibition in Ullapool with her mother LG Thomson, who is also a DJCAD-graduate artist and author.
Mhairi Muncaster, An Talla Solais curator said: “The Members Show is always an exciting and inspiring exhibition. We are proud to showcase the diverse artistic talents of our members, whose work spans a wide range of disciplines: from sculpture to ceramics and paintings to prints.
“We have been overwhelmed with both the number and quality of artworks submitted this year. We have had to pull in an extra room to display more pieces. The community of artists is so inspiring and the Members Show this year features new and established artists from all over the Highlands.”
The exhibition will be open from August 9 to September 29, from 10am to 1.30pm and 2pm to 5pm, on Wednesdays to Sundays.
