Preparations for ten-day A835 road improvement south of Aultguish in Ross-shire as BEAR Scotland pledges 'smoother and safer' route for motorists

A TEN-day programme of roadworks on a 1.8km stretch of the A835 in Ross-shire is set to get under way.
On behalf of Transport Scotland, BEAR Scotland will be carrying out essential surfacing improvements south of Aultguish, starting on Monday, September 5.
It will create "a smoother and safer road for motorists".
The project is scheduled to take place over ten days, with works planned between 7am and 7pm each day. No works will take place on Saturday or Sunday. All works are anticipated to be complete by 7pm on Friday, September 16 , subject to weather conditions.
To ensure the safety of roadworkers as well as motorists, a 10mph convoy system will be in place during working hours.
The convoy system will be removed outwith working hours; however, a 30mph speed limit will be in place outwith working hours as traffic will be travelling over a temporary surface.
Access through the works site for emergency services will be maintained at all times.
Consultation has taken place with all relevant stakeholders in advance of the resurfacing improvements to make them aware of the traffic management arrangements.
Eddie Ross, BEAR Scotland’s North West Representative said: “These surfacing works on the A835 south of Aultguish will help address defects and greatly improve the surface for road users.
“The use of convoy traffic management during working hours is essential to ensure the safety of roadworkers and motorists. We will not be undertaking any works on the Saturday or Sunday to minimise the disruption experienced at the weekend. We thank the local community and road users for their patience in advance while we complete this project. We encourage motorists to plan ahead before setting out by checking the Traffic Scotland website for up-to-date travel information.”

Materials removed from the existing carriageway will be recycled using SEPA approved methods.
