“David has been a member of the Strathpeffer and District Pipe Band since the second year of the band’s formation. He was taught by his uncle and former pipe major of the band, Sandy Mackenzie. Sandy was one of the early pipe majors of the band and was a very well-known character in the area.
“David was a well-known and well-liked character. He was a core member of the piping section, often seen in the front rank and was a member of the band committee for many years. He was an avid Ross County supporter and loved watching and following the football.
“He also did a huge amount of work over the years for the Maryburgh community, where he lived.
“He always enjoyed a pint and a dram with band members during game days away and after street performances in the evenings. He had a good sense of fun and always enjoyed a gathering. A kind man and a true gent.
“David will be dearly missed by everyone in the pipe band and we would like to send our condolences to all of his family. Our thoughts are with you all.”
Mr Mackenzie’s funeral will be taking place at 10am on October 17, at Conon Church.
