Tributes are being paid to the emergency services after they spent hours battling a major blaze last night.

Sadly, several units within Fairways Business Park in Inverness were completely gutted by the blaze in the early hours of Sunday morning, as well as one car.

But despite the building the units being completely destroyed in the blaze, the fire fighters were able to prevent it from spreading to the neighbouring buildings housing the Inverness Kart Raceway, Inverness and District Indoor Bowling Centre, and the Fairways Restaurant and Bar.

Cllr Ken Gowans was among those to pay tribute to the firefighters and other emergency services for their efforts on Sunday morning.

He said: “Thankfully, no one was injured in this horrific fire. We all a great deal of thanks to our blue light services who responded quickly and professionally as ever ensure that our communities were kept safe at great risk to themselves.”

The remarks by the Inverness South ward member, follow similar praise from fellow Highland councillor Duncan Macpherson.

The fellow Inverness South member said: “The sterling efforts and excellent teamwork by firefighters, including retained firefighters from nearby stations outwith Inverness, ensured that the fire was contained to the one building that held several local businesses and prevented the fire from reaching any other of the nearby buildings.

“Grateful thanks to all the brave firefighters and to all the emergency services in attendance throughout the night at this major incident emergency.”

At its peak, six fire engines were deployed to battle the blaze.

Businesses whose premises were destroyed in the blaze included SJ Travel Centre, Scottish Premium Seafood, Hair Chic, and one of the Harry Gows bakery’s shops.
