Tributes to the late Rev. James Forsyth (84) who ministered in communities across the Highlands, including the Black Isle, Contin, Fearn and Golspie

TRIBUTES have been flooded in for a much-loved minister known in communities across the Highlands.

Rev. James Forsyth died in the care of Meadows Nursing Home, Dornoch on May 11. He was 84.

He grew up in Beauly and he was a minister in several communities including Fortrose, Avoch and Rosemarkie, Bellshill, Glenrothes, Contin, Taynuilt and Fearn. In retirement he took service in Golspie.

A family message spreading the word about his passing and plans for his funeral states: "He built communities up who were falling behind and brought joy and love to them all and he even worked as a director with Christian Aid.

"His funeral will be on Wednesday, May 18 in Golspie.He is at peace now after a battle with illness for a while.

"He was the kindest purest soul, he loved all and especially animals even the tiny insects. He was a one of a kind that all learnt from in some way. To James (Jim to some) death was not something to be sad about. To him it was just a shell, he would say he is not gone he is still here all around us.

"I hope to get the word out to all that loved and knew Rev. James Forsyth. As a lot of people don't use social media.

"The funeral will be live streamed for those who cannot make the funeral if you are to far away to come on Wednesday at 1pm.

"Anyone who wants to come you are very welcome.He enjoyed a celebration."

It's expected that the website link for live-steaming on Wednesday will be on the funeral director's website on Tuesday.

His family added: "He will be greatly missed. Thank you in advance and to all that have reached out to the family so far.We greatly appreciate all your love."

He was the beloved husband of Vivienne, dearly loved dad of Josie, Leona and Janferie and a much-loved grandpa and great grandpa.

The funeral service will be held in St. Andrews Church of Scotland, Golspie on Wednesday 18 May at 1pm, thereafter to Golspie Cemetery.

Family flowers only have been requested but donations if so desired may be given at the service for Christian Aid or send to Alasdair Rhind, Funeral Directors, Sutherland House, Bank Street, Tain or donate by BACS to RBS sort code 83-27-35, a/c 00254580 ref the late Rev. James.

Many took to social media to offer their condolences and share memories of the late Rev. Forsyth, some recalling weddings and baptisms he had presided over and one recalling "a thoroughly lovely, funny, inspirational, gentle man".
